Formula 1 Watch Party
“It’s lights out, and away we go!”
IT’S TIME! I’ve been anticipating the 2026 season of Formula 1, and it's finally here! The first Grand Prix is Sunday, March 6th, in Australia, and I’ll be tuned in with my family and, of course, delicious bites.
With the new regulations (no DRS!), a new team (Cadillac), and a new driver on the grid (Linblad), I can barely contain myself. I love making moments like these special for my kids, and since I’ve dragged my family into the Formula life, I know they will enjoy what I have planned! The best part about this is that there are 24 races this year, so you can have a watch party for your favorite race or, if you’re feeling bold, for all of them! Keep reading to see how I’ve put together the perfect Formula 1-themed watch party for my family.
Let’s start with the food. First up, Qualifying (Appetizer)
When eating at a restaurant, I don’t usually order an appetizer. I like to order my food ASAP so that I can focus on spending time with whoever I’m sharing a meal with (I am very easily distracted when ordering food LOL). So if I’m making an appetizer at home, it has to be fast and delicious. I decided to make a copycat recipe of the Cajun Corn from Wing Stop. All you’ll need are frozen corn cobs, a heavy-bottom pot for frying (I used cast iron), and your favorite Cajun seasoning. Once your oil is heated, CAREFULLY place the corn cobs in the oil and fry for about 3 minutes. Once the corn is done frying, place it in a mixing bowl and sprinkle the cajun seasoning over the corn to ensure it’s completely covered. That’s all there is to it!
Grand Prix (Main Course)
Watching any sport often involves nervous pacing, so finger foods are the best route to take. Since 3 of the first 4 races of the season are in Asian countries, I thought Asian flavored wings would be perfect! You can use fresh or frozen wings (I used fresh). I like to bake my wings in the oven on a baking rack at 425 degrees. Season the wings with your favorite spices like onion and garlic powders, paprika, salt, and pepper. Since I knew I was using a premade wing sauce, I was light on the salt. Cooking time will vary, but I like to check on the wings at around 30 minutes. Once your wings are finished, immediately toss them in a large mixing bowl with the sauce of your choice. For these wings, I used the Buffalo Wild Wings Asian Zing sauce. Once I sauce the wings, I like to put them back in the oven for about 3-5 minutes so that the sauce is a little sticky. Be sure to watch the wings closely so the sauce doesn’t burn. You can also heat the sauce on the stove with a little butter to skip this step.
Podium (Dessert)
I have 2 dessert options that are fun and super yummy! The first is for when you don’t have a lot of time, or just don’t want to get the stand mixer out. I used premade sugar cookie dough to make race car cookies! They were a hit with my daughter, and so easy to make. I rolled out the dough and pressed the F1 cookie cutter into the dough. Bake according to the package instructions and decorate however you like! You can purchase the cookie cutter here.
For a more elevated dessert, I made donut tires. My first batch was not great (the yeast did not activate properly), but the second attempt was great! To make the donuts look like tires, I made the donut icing with powdered sugar, milk, and black food coloring. You can view the recipe I used here.
I hope you enjoy these watch party tips and the 2026 F1 season!
